Felipe Kautzmann

I’m a software engineer passionate about technology, products, and understanding how things work under the hood.

I’ve been working with software for over 15 years, and along the way I’ve had the chance to experience pretty much every part of building a product: writing code, designing architectures, scaling systems, building teams, making product decisions, and even starting companies.

My specialty is backend engineering. I particularly enjoy distributed systems, APIs, databases, performance, scalability, and cloud infrastructure. These days, I mainly work with Node.js, Java, TypeScript, and technologies across the AWS ecosystem.

I’ve also had the opportunity to be a CTO and co-founder of technology companies. Those experiences taught me that building great software is about much more than choosing the right technology. You need to understand the problem, the product, and, most importantly, the people building it.

Today, I’m a Senior Software Engineer at PayPal, working on payment systems and solutions involving cryptocurrency.

Outside of technology, surfing is my main hobby. I love being in the ocean, catching waves, and spending a few hours away from screens and code. I also enjoy swimming and, whenever I can, spending time near the water.

At the end of the day, whether I’m building software or catching a wave, I enjoy the same thing: learning, experimenting, and getting better at what I do.
